Preparing a rota the old way

It can take days to prepare a rota for a GP practice.

Imagine a GP practice with the following staff members;

·        4 full time, 1 ¾ time partners

·        2 with outside commitments

·        1 part time registrar

·        1 part time retainer

·        4 locum/assistants

Each time a new rota is prepared the practice manager would need to allow for the following;

·        Changing shift requirements

·        Minimum staffing numbers

·        Preferential shift allocation

·        Partner required at all times

·        Changing personnel

·        Variable half days

·        Specialised shifts

·        Staff availability

·        Staffing cover
